In Year 11 and Year 12, students have the opportunity to specialise and select a pathway that suits their interests and post-secondary plans. Both vocational and non-vocational pathways can include VET subjects.

KEY TERMS

Shorthand used across the pathways above.

ATAR
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank. A number (0.00–99.95) showing how a student performed compared to others across Australia; used as the main selection tool by universities for course entry.
Non-ATAR
Pathways that do not produce an ATAR, sometimes referred to as an unscored VCE. Students completing a non-ATAR pathway can access TAFE, work, or alternative entry routes to university, depending on the course and institution.
University Direct Entry
Being offered a place at university based mainly on an ATAR and meeting any required subject or study prerequisites.
University Alternative Entry
Refers to pathways other than ATAR used to gain admission to university.
VCAA
Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority — the body that oversees curriculum, assessments, and certificates for Victorian schools.
VTAC
Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre — the organisation that manages applications and course offers for universities and TAFE in Victoria.
